At Priyankara, our commitment revolves around Saving the Planet, Supporting the Artisans, and Upholding Sustainable Clothing.
Save the Planet
We’ve made a conscious choice by embracing organic cotton. This miraculous fibre is cultivated without harmful pesticides, fertilisers, or genetic modifications, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Organic cotton not only maintains soil fertility but also reduces our overall ecological footprint. It safeguards the livelihoods of farmers and communities in cotton-growing regions, promoting inter-cropping and crop-rotation cultivation. By maintaining the delicate balance between pests and their natural predators, we create a harmonious ecosystem. Furthermore, the cultivation of organic cotton consumes a mere fraction of the water and energy compared to conventional methods. The processes of hand-spinning and hand-weaving, integral to our craft, require no power from fossil fuels or electricity.
Support the Artisans
Our journey is intricately woven with the hands of skilled artisans from India. By collaborating with them, we not only provide a source of livelihood but also preserve the rich tapestry of handloom arts and cultural heritage. The art and artisans we support hold profound significance, pouring their souls into their creations. With every stitch, they narrate stories of tradition, culture, and aspirations for a more sustainable future. The organic farming and Khadi process, reliant on manual labour, generate invaluable employment opportunities. We ensure strict adherence to ethical, fair trade practices, ensuring that every artisan is treated with the dignity and respect they rightfully deserve.
Sustainable Clothing:
Our commitment to sustainability is deeply ingrained in every thread of our garments. They are crafted with organic, eco-friendly materials, gentle on both your skin and the Earth. Designed with meticulous care, our clothing aims to minimise negative environmental and social impacts. Our panel of vendors proudly carries the esteemed GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification, reflecting our unwavering dedication to quality and integrity. We take pride in offering Kala Kotton – a fabric with historical significance, grown sustainably through rain-fed, short-staple, carbon-neutral crop cultivation. In addition, our handspun yarn, composed of Organic Cotton Khadi, results in pure, organic Khadi fabric, handwoven from yarns spun with care from organic cotton fibres. Our clothing range showcases various natural vegetable dyes and colourants derived from plant sources, showcasing nature’s palette in every piece.
